Paneer Masala

Paneer Masala is a popular dish from North India, made with cubes of soft paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked in a creamy tomato-based gravy. Follow the steps below to make it at home:

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams paneer, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  4. Add the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Add the red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala powder. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the cubed paneer to the pan and mix gently. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add the cream and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
