Matar Paneer is a popular Indian vegetarian dish made with green peas and paneer, a type of Indian cottage cheese.
Ingredients:
- 200g paneer, cut into cubes
- 1 cup green peas, fresh or frozen
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder (adjust according to your taste)
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1/4 cup fresh cream (optional)
- Coriander leaves, for garnishing
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they start to crackle, add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.
- Add the green peas and mix well. Add a little water if needed and cook for 5-7 minutes or until the green peas are cooked.
- Add the paneer cubes and garam masala powder. Mix gently and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Finally, add fresh cream (if using) and mix well. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
